My rescue for 2012

Last year we rescued a calf Clementine. First calf I have ever had .She is doing well fat happy and quite large. Looks like this year its going to be an Arabian mare named Glory. The problem with my rescues is they never seem to find other homes.

A friend of mine called and asked if I wanted her fathers arabian mare. He had fallen ill and could no longer care for her and no one in the family wanted to. I told her no, but I would come look and take pictures and use my horsey connections to help find a home for her.

When I got there the poor horse was very thin and weak. I couldn't in good conscience leave her where she was. The father had been the horses sole care taker and when he got down and couldn't take care of her she went down hill fast. She was in a pasture with a creek but all of the grass was gone. No intentional abuse or neglect just unfortunate circumstances. The family was a bit embarrassed when we loaded Glory on the trailer. They were glad she would be cared for and signed her over to me with no problems.

I got her to the farm and into a clean dry stall. Both eyes are running and I believe she has some dental problems no other obvious health issues. I have the vet coming out this week to check her out. She is getting 3 meals a day of soaked hay cubes and feed and she is perking up. In fact I got to see her beautiful ,floating, arab trot today.

Do you have a plan in place for your animals in case of catastrophic illness? Or death? Might be a good idea. We take care of things for our other loved ones and animals cannot fend for themselves.

Lazy blogger

Cannot believe I have not posted since Sept. Must be getting lazy in my old age. Not too much going on just the holidays which were uneventful a new flock of chickens, and mud! Lots of mud.

Took a short break and went camping and fishing in October. It was nice and relaxing until everything at the farm started falling apart and we had to come home.

One of the drawbacks to having animals is the difficulty in leaving for any period of time.

You don't have to leave home to find beauty and relaxation though. Its all around you. You just have to look for it.
