THE BEAGLE WEIGHT LOSS PLAN

This is Beagle. She adopted us about a year and a half ago. She came pregnant, starving, and worm infested. We didn't name her because we hoped to find her home or someone who wanted her. Nobody wanted an old pregnant Beagle. We did find homes for the 2 puppies she had the first time. She never went into heat again(we thought) so we kept her and procrastinated taking her to the vet. Well before we knew it she had one HUGE fuzzy pup without really looking pregnant. We called him franken pup. We found him a home and got the old lady fixed.Heard from the pups owner and it has the same toes as a great pyranese. Who would have thought that was possible.

Since she has been fixed Beagle has gotten quite fat. So we went to feeding a limited amount once a day. Beagle didn't think this was enough so she took matters into her own paws. No wonder she hasn't lost weight.

When I caught her she gave me her most charming smile so she didn't get in trouble.

HOMEMADE PIZZA FOR 2

Last night seemed like a good night for pizza. I have been working on this recipe for awhile now. It doesn't take much longer to prepare than ordering delivery and it is so much better. Not low fat or much healthier than the other stuff but it sure beats cardboard frozen pizza and you know what goes into it.

Pizza dough
1 and1/3 cup warm water(not over 120 as it will kill the yeast)
1/4c dried milk
1/2tsp sea salt
2c. white flour
2c. whole wheat flour
2tbl.olive oil
2tbl butter melted
3/4cup olive oil
1pkg yeast
1tbl sugar

3 9" cake pans

Put water, yeast, sugar, salt, and milk in a large mixing bowl mix and let rest for 3min. Add oil and stir. Add flour and mix until dough forms a ball. Flour a spot and knead the dough till it becomes elastic (about 5-10min).
Separate into 3 balls and roll out 3 9" circles. If your good this is where the chef throws the dough up and spins it. I use a rolling pin. Pour 1/4 cup of the oil into the bottom of each pan making sure it covers the bottom.Press your dough circle in the bottom to fit. Place the pans in a warm place to rise for about 1 hr.
When the dough has risen brush the outside crust with your melted butter. I also use some garlic on the out side crust.

Pre heat oven to 475
Spread 1/3cup sauce or less depending how much sauce you like. I use commercial spaghetti sauce and save whats left in the refrigerator for something else.add Cheese and toppings.
Place in the preheated oven until the crust begins to brown usually about 10min but watch it as it is a hot oven.

I dont cook all three as one of these with a salad is a meal for 2. The other two are covered and placed in the freezer to be cooked and eaten at a later date. These are compareable to the rising crust pizzas but better. When you are ready to cook the frozen pizzas cook in a preheated oven at 400 for about 20min.

Sounds like alot of work but really is not. Takes about an hour and 15min start to finish and an hour of that is rising.

Hay delivery

Spent the good part of the day today delivering hay to some needy horses. I have recently become aware of an organization in our area that is trying to help starving and abused horses. sosofhorses.com . We tried to get help for a horse that we passed every day.

She is pregnant and in need of some care. Our humane society said she was typical for horses in the area and times. The owners rejected sos's offer of help to feed the horses. I just don't understand. They live in a million dollar house and won't feed their animals.
PEOPLE!!!
The hay we delivered was for 3 Belgian horses that SOS is helping to feed. They don't mind helping folks who have fallen on hard times and can't afford to feed their horses.

These are two of my horses. To give a comparison. They are in the same area and I live in the same "times" as the other horses. In fact we are farmers and probably are facing tougher times. If I couldn't feed my animals I would find help or re-home them.

Introduction

This blog is about my day to day life and how I am learning to adjust to being middle aged and empty nest syndrome. I am learning to cook for 2 people without alot of waste.(Dogs are getting fat). We own a poultry farm and also raise goats and horses. Everyday is a new day on a farm. I am not sure where this quote came from", learn something new every day, and you will never live the same day twice." but it is my motto.  I have always been curious and adventurous which lead my parents to label me as a "free spirit." Makes me laugh now knowing it meant they didn't know what to do with me. I love to capture my life in photos and love to share these. I am also exploring my ancestry when I have time.
